February 2015 Meeting

Spring is in the air and bees are starting to fly around, so that must mean that it is time for our beekeeping meetings are starting up again. So join us on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 7:00 pm and share your wintery tales with your fellow beekeepers.

More importantly we will have Jeff Steenbergen from PSBA coming to talk about Top Bar Hives and their advantages.

7:00 – 7:30 Beginners’ Session: Basic Bee Principles by Robert Clark

  • Checking the Health of the Overwintered Colony
    • Externally – Pollen and Weight
    • Internally – Stores and Cluster
    • Cleaning – Bottom Board
  • Preparing for the Coming Spring
    • Feeding, if necessary
    • Ordering Bees and Equipment
    • Assembling Equipment
    • Taking Beekeeping Classes
7:30 – 8:00 Tea Time and Membership Renewal
8:00 – 9:00 Top Bar Hives by Jeff Steenbergen (Puget Sound Beekeepers Association)
Jeff will answer the following questions during his presentation:

  • How does a top bar hive work with bee space and natural comb?

Meetings are 7:00-9:00 pm on the first Tuesday of each month at Meadowbrook Interpretive Center (directions to Meadowbrook) and are open to the public.
