This month’s guest speaker will be Danny Najera from Green River College.
Danny will be presenting on a topic that all beekeepers need to learn about, managing hives to control the Varroa destructor mite. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, if you’re a beekeeper then you’re a mitekeeper. If we’re lucky and time permits he may even share with us some of the cool research that he has been up to a GRC.
The Beekeeping 101 presentation will be led by our very own President, Dave Treiber.
This will be a presentation to go over tasks for August to ensure your hives are as strong as possible going into the Fall as well as an intro to honey harvesting. Of course, there will also be an opportunity to any questions that you may have.
Apiary demo: Dave will be leading our apiary demo from 6:00-6:45 p.m. He will be performing hive inspections and alcohol wash mite checks. We will also be pulling the supers off the hives in order to harvest this year’s honey crop. We kindly ask that anyone wanting to attend bring their protective gear. Safety first!
